Arrival in Yangon and take a connection flight to Sittwe. The port city sits at the mouth of the Kaladan River. Visit the highlights of this seaside town beginning with the MAHAKUTHALA BUDDHA MUSEUM. This is the most extensive collection of Rakhine-style Buddha images. Thereafter proceed to the SITTING BUDDHA (THET KYA MUNI PAGODA), one of the highlights of

this town. This is located in the same area with U Ye Kyaw Thu Monastery. Continue to the FISHING PORT, which is quite interesting in the evening when boats are returning from the fishing. From the view point one can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view on the sunset over the Bay of Bengal.

Overnight in Sittwe

In the morning visit a local market in Sittwe. Afterwards journey by charter boat first on the Kaladan River, then on the Theinganadi River and finally on the Henyakaw River towards Mrauk U. This town was formerly one of Myanmar’s most powerful kingdoms and namely amongst the most impressive group of ruins in Southeast Asia. Spend the afternoon visiting the major temples MRAUK U MUSEUM AND PALACE RUINS. Proceed to the complex SHITTAUNG, where over 80,000 Buddha images ornament, terraces and stupas can be found. Continue to the ANDAW THEIN PAYA, a smaller eight-sided monument surrounded by 16 zedis around the southern, northern and western platforms. Afterwards, visit the LAY MYATNAR PAYA before continuing to SHAKAMA THET VILLAGE where many of the older women still wear their distinctive oversized earrings and chat while smoking their traditional pipes. At the end of the day, relax atop DUK KAN THEIN PAYA and enjoy the view of sunset over the plain.

Start into this eventful day with an excursion to WETHALI.

Archaeologists believe that this kingdom lasted until the 8th century. Continue to visit MAHAMUNI, located at the north-eastern corner of the old Dhanyawady city site.

This was the original site, known as the original site of Mandalay’s famous Mahamuni Buddha. After returning to Mrauk U, spend the afternoon visiting the graceful KOE THAUNG PAGODA, also called the temple of 90,000 images, one of the biggest temples in the Mrauk U.

Continue to PAYSI PAYA and visit a village of traditional fan production, ZEE NAT MAN AUNG and ZINA MAN AUNG.

Proceed further to Harri Taung hill to enjoy another beautiful sunset over the plain.

Overnight in Mrauk U

Transfer by charter boat southwards from Mrauk U to Sittwe. On the way, the boat stops at the town of Ponnagyun on the Braham Island. Take a flight from Sittwe to Yangon. End of the tour.
