This morning hop on a short flight to Sittwe. Originally a small fishing village, Sittwe became an important seat of maritime commerce, especially as a port for the export of rice after the British occupation of Arakan, now known as Rakhine State, following the First Anglo-Burmese War. Visit View Point Lighthouse (Farkir Point) a lovely recreational spot where one can enjoy breathing fresh sea breeze. It shows the panoramic view of Baronga islands on the other side of the Kaladan River, and also the Layshinedaung savage island lighthouse.
Overnight in Sittwe
Transfer to jetty to board the local boat. Sailing time about 5 to 7 hours, depending upon river conditions. Arrive Mrauk U, Rakhine's capital in the 15th Century, in the afternoon and transfer for hotel check-in.
Mrauk U, which means "North Far" may seem to be a sleepy village today but not so long ago it was the capital of the Arakan empire where Portuguese, Dutch and French traders rubbed shoulders with the literati of Bengal and Mughal princes on the run. Mrauk U was declared capital of the Arakanese kingdom in 1431. At its peak, Mrauk U controlled half of Bangladesh, modern day Rakhine State (Arakan) and the western part of Lower Burma. As the city grew, many pagodas and temples were built. Several of them remain, and these are the main attraction of Mrauk-U.
Visit to Htaukkhan - Thein Temple like the fortress, one of the most famous temples in the ancient Arakanese city of Mrauk U, in Rakhine State, Western Myanmar. The name means "Cross-Beam Ordination Hall". Like most of Mrauk U's Buddhist temples, it is designed as a dual purpose 'fortress-temple'. Although it is a 'thein' (Ordination Hall), it is one of the most militaristic buildings in Mrauk U, built on raised ground, with a single entrance and small windows. According to Dr. Emil Forchhammer, an archaeologist employed by the British Raj to study Mrauk U in the late 19th century, the temples might have been employed as a refuge for the Buddhist religious order in times of war Next visit is Andaw-Thein Temple enshrines a tooth relic of Buddha. Overnight in Mrauk U
First to most famous Shit-Thaung Temple, home to some 80,000 holy Buddha images and reliefs. Laungbanprauk Pagoda, locally known as "Plate Pagoda' because a wall at the front is embedded with plate-like tiles in bright color. Afternoon visit the museum which houses ancient stone slabs with inscriptions and an interesting collection of Rakhine style Buddha images. Visit to Shwe Taung Hill, where there is a good view over Mrauk U and spend the time till sunset.
Overnight in Mrauk U
We go to Ngagya Jetty. Start to take lovely boat ride to Chin villages on nearby Lemro River. On the way you will find the creek is shallow (about half meter). Sometimes, you will have to see even if the ground of creek and surrounded by bamboo forest. At there, you will find women take tattooed on their face owing to their belief. Streaky tattooed face didn’t practice anymore. Typical trips from Mrauk U to Chin villages begin at 7:00AM or 8:00 AM and include 2 to 3 hours boat ride each way. Stop an hour or so at a couple of villages to meet Chin people. Return back to Mrauk U.
