Depart your hotel and travel about an hour to the valley of Mae Taeng to one of the most famous Elephant parks in Thailand.
Established in 1995, Elephant Nature Park aims to provide a sanctuary and rescue center for the Asian pachyderms. In the scenic Mae Taeng valley, Elephant Nature Park is one of the rare places in Thailand where elephants no longer work for humans. Throughout the day, learn about the problems elephants face in South East Asia, as well as the changes advocated by the park regarding their care, treatment, and training. Join the park’s volunteers to feed and bathe the elephants, an unforgettable day and a unique experience for any visitors to Thailand.
After a fun full day with your new gigantic friends, continue to Chiang Dao region for an overnight stay.
Dinner at the resort.
Overnight in Chiang Dao
After checking out, we continue our journey north to a small town of Fang. Get briefed on the rich and interesting history of this forgotten city and get ready for the trek up to Doi Phu Muen, a mountain in the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park. A 4WD brings us to the starting point for the trek just by a waterfall. Trek the trail all the way up to the remote Lahu Village. Local jungle lunch is provided during the trek. (Note: Families with small children (under 6 years old) can continue with the 4WD to the Lahu Village and skip the trekking.)
At the village, get involved in one of the many activities and learn how the villagers are making a living by picking and processing tea and coffee, both of which are organically grown on the mountain. Join in with the locals and learn hands on how this works and the secret behind their success in going from cultivating opium to coffee and tea. At dinner, the locals will perform a traditional dance before it’s time to go to bed.
Overnight at homestay
Enjoy breakfast with the hosts of the family before returning to Fang. After lunch, take a bicycle ride around the city of Fang or visit the hot springs of Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park, the perfect place to relax after a night on the mountain. Relax in the jaccuzi or relax in the sauna as the natural mineral water rejuvenates your body. Lunch is provided at the hotel.
In the afternoon, check out and transfer to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.
(*NOTE: The program in Fang is Community-Based Tourism (CBT); therefore, areas, activities and accommodation are local and basic. However, guests can get an authentic local experience while staying in Fang.)
