Depart Chiang Rai / Golden Triangle in the morning and head for a scenic drive to one of the north’s acclaimed attractions, Doi Angkhang, which is famous for its abundance of flowers. Halfway there, stop at a local ‘Long Neck’ Karen hilltribe village to experience their unique culture firsthand.
Lunch is served at a resort restaurant overlooking the Mae Kok River.
After lunch, continue further to the mountain of Doi Angkhang. Upon arrival at Doi Angkhang, visit the Royal Project of Doi Angkhang. This research project provides agricultural support to the neighbouring hilltribes and develops non-indigenous crops for them to grow instead of opium poppies. Highlights of the area include a massive outdoor garden, a vegetables greenhouse, a bonsai garden, a tea-tasting area, a temperate flower greenhouse, and a rose’s greenhouse.
Dinner at the hotel.
Overnight at Doi Angkhang
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to some of the area’s local hilltribe villages. Visit Nor Lae Village for an encounter with the Palong people, and also check out the spectacular views of the Thai-Burmese border there. Then, visit the nearby Black Lahu village of Khob Don. Here, be sure to purchase a handmade handicraft, which not only contributes directly to the well-being of the community, but also serves as a fantastic souvenir.
Afterwards, continue driving to Chiang Mai with a short stop at an orchid farm in the Chiang Dao area. Lunch is served at a local restaurant before driving straight back to Chiang Mai.
