The central coast of Vietnam is a destination with two faces - the charming, old-world trading port of Hoi An with it’s narrow streets and traditional houses, and it’s long beach stretching from Danang to Hoi An. Danang, which is the gateway to Hoi An rests on a white sandy beach set against a backdrop of mountains.

Many visitors to Vietnam have heard of the Hai Van Pass but few ever make it to Son Tra, an area of infinite beauty and blissfully-free of souvenir vendors. Of all the natural attractions in Central Vietnam, few are as underrated as the Son Tra Peninsula. Jutting out into the ocean just north of Danang, this lush portion of land offers gorgeous vistas and spectacular coastline.
This day trip takes you from the lowlands to the mountains, stopping at several other viewpoints along the way that few tourists will ever get to see, transport will be by open-air, fully renovated, American war-era jeep. Leaving Danang behind, the road first passes by numerous coves populated with picturesque fishing villages and basket boats before beginning the climb along the steep slopes of the Son Tra Peninsula (also known as Monkey Mountain). This road juts out over the coast and each switch back offers a new, breathtaking view. From this vantage point Danang, China Beach, the Truong Son Mountains and even Hai Van Pass can be seen and stops can be made as often as you like at small viewpoints along the road.
At 696 meters high stop for a picnic lunch and enjoy panoramic views of the area. Soak it all in – this is one incredible picnic spot! From here descend along the other side of the mountain to see Vietnam’s biggest Buddha statue and down toward the fishing villages where the colorful wooden boats are moored along the coast. Return back to your resort in Danang late afternoon.
