Travel by vehicle from Hanoi to Son La. This is a journey towards the border of Laos on the Highway 6 past Hoa Binh and Moc Chau.

Travel by vehicle from Son La to Dien Bien Phu. In one of the most remote areas of Vietnam, surrounded by steep forested mountains, DIEN BIEN PHU was the city where the Vietnamese decisively defeated the French in a single battle and ended their colonial control of Indochina. Begin the tour with a visit to the DIEN BIEN PHU MUSEUM which contains artefacts and exhibits related to the battle. Then head off to the HILL A1, where the defenders fought the never ending onrush of French forces. Today, there are realistic re-creations of the bunkers and the bomb crater is still visible. Continue the trip to the BUNKER OF DE CASTRIES, where he headquarters of this French commander was recreated.
Overnight in Dien Bien Phu
Today the journey continues by vehicle to Sa Pa. Drive from Dien Bien via Muong Ang until arriving at Tuan Giao. Drive to Pa Uon ferry station and cross the river by ferry. Afterwards, drive to Than Uyen. The road is rather small and it takes approximately 30 minutes from Pa Uon ferry station to Than Uyen. Continue driving via Than Uyen before arriving in Sa Pa and overnight.

Overnight in Sa Pa
The first trekking day with a local guide starts with a walk through the local market before leaving the busy town behind. Walk downhill toward Cat Cat village and stop at a waterfall and a hydroelectric station before the trekking tour continues on a sandy trail through rice paddy terraces. Enjoy the spectacular scenery while walking along a narrow river. When arriving in Y Linh Ho village where the Black Hmong Minority lives, a lunch will be served close to the river After the lunchtime, the trekking tour continues through the Muong Hoa valley. On this very popular trekking route the Lao Chai village and the Tavan village will be passed. Lao Chai is the village of the Black Hmong minority and the Giay minority lives in the Tavan village. Spend the night in a local house of the Giay minority. Take the opportunity for a walk.
Enjoy the valley view and swim in the river nearby.
Overnight in a local village
Enjoy a delicious breakfast before the trekking tour starts. Then head off for the Giang Ta Chai village where the Red Dao minority lives. Pass by a waterfall and take the opportunity for a rest and enjoy the surroundings. A lunch will be served before the tour continues towards Su Pan which is a small village located by the road. From here the journey continues by car back to Sa Pa.
